B1 and Cognition

I think we're all pretty familiar with B-vitamins for energy, to give us back our "b-b-b-ounce." There's a bunch of chemical reactions (I can sing them for you sometime, if you like), that are a fancy way of moving electrons around to produce ATP (i.e. cellular energy).
But did you know B1 (thiamine) deficiency has been linked to impaired cognition? "Thiamine-dependent enzymes are critical components of glucose metabolism that are reduced in the brains of AD (Alzheimer's disease) patients," (Gibson et al. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and dementia. PMID: 26971083; PMCID: PMC4846521.). In Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (a brain and memory disorder), this is due to severe depletion of B1 due to chronic alcohol consumption.
Real food sources (among others): yeast, vegemite, marmite.

My blood sugars were rising just looking 👀 at that vegemite toast on it's own ... so please eat it with some protein 😉 Have you ever used Vegemite as a marinade?? I'm intrigued by the vegemite & honey chicken recipes 🤔
