Frequently Asked Questions

Yes - acupuncture sessions can be claimed with your private health fund (depending on your individual level of cover). Please contact your health fund to find out how much they cover. You can claim on the day of your appointment.

Since June 2026, Naturopathy (and Western herbal medicine) have been re-instated as eligible for private health insurance benefits with:

  • ACA Health Benefits Fund

  • Health Partners

  • Mildura Health Fund

  • Phoenix Health Fund

  • Qld Country Health Fund

  • see-u by HBF (formerly CUA Health)

  • St Lukes Health

  • Teachers Health Group

  • CBHS Corporate Health

Please contact your individual fund (if not listed above) to find out when they will implement the NHMRC's recommendation from The 2024 Natural Therapies Review Expert Advisory Panel to re-instate cover for Naturopathy.

Note: Bowen therapy itself is not covered by private health funds in Australia, but may be included in the context of Naturopathic sessions.

Not sure whether to book in for acupuncture or naturopathy with Bowen?

Acupuncture

  • usually involves a more intensive initial treatment phase (e.g. two to three times per week for the first few weeks)

  • generally requires 5-10 treatments to establish meaningful change

  • involves resting quietly for 20mins (with the phone away!)

Naturopathy with Bowen Therapy

  • usually involves a less intense pace in the initial treatment phase (e.g. weekly sessions for 3 weeks)

  • may be a gentler choice than acupuncture if you're particularly exhausted or run down

  • is generally better suited to young children and babies

To my mind, acupuncture and Bowen therapy make use of the same body processes and systems and may both help with similar issues (e.g. pain, stress, period health). Both may be used in pregnancy, with children and the elderly.

In my experience, it's not unusual for people to make use of both therapies over time. Some even like to alternate them when they reach the maintenance/well being phase.

If you would like more information about which modality may be more useful for your specific situation, you may discuss this with your practitioner at your initial consultation. Or, email admin@jasminenaturaltherapist.com with any questions.
